After years of working in hotel housekeeping, the narrator reveals something many guests may not realize about complimentary shampoo and conditioner bottles. Although guests often assume these small toiletries are replaced for every new visitor, some hotels may leave bottles behind when they appear unused, particularly when the seal looks intact and the liquid level appears full.
The narrator initially believed every bathroom amenity was automatically replaced between guests. During training, however, they learned that unopened-looking bottles could remain in the room. The policy was mainly designed to reduce waste and avoid throwing away products that appeared untouched.
The problem is that appearances can sometimes be misleading. A previous guest might have opened a bottle, used some of it, or broken the seal without housekeeping immediately realizing it. The next guest may then assume the product is completely fresh when it may not actually be.
