Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Cooling Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour

Difficulty Level: Easy

Recipe Intensity: Low

Yield: 6 servings (about 6 cups)

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Blender
  • Large pitcher
  • Citrus juicer
  • Serving glasses

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh blueberries (or frozen, thawed)
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons dried culinary lavender
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
  • ⅓ to ½ cup honey or granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh blueberries for garnish
  • Lemon slices for garnish
  • Fresh lavender sprigs (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Lavender Infusion

In a medium saucepan, combine the water and dried culinary lavender.

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

Reduce the heat and allow the lavender to steep for about 8–10 minutes. Avoid boiling vigorously, as this may create a bitter flavor.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and strain out the lavender flowers using a fine-mesh strainer.

Step 2: Cook the Blueberries

Return the lavender-infused water to the saucepan.

Add the blueberries and cook over medium heat for 8–10 minutes until the berries soften and begin to burst.

Stir occasionally to help release their natural juices.

Step 3: Blend the Mixture

Allow the blueberry mixture to cool slightly.

Transfer it to a blender and blend until completely smooth.

For a clearer juice, strain the blended mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth. If you prefer a thicker, smoothie-like beverage, skip the straining step.

Step 4: Sweeten

Pour the strained juice into a large pitcher.

Add the fresh lemon juice and honey (or sugar), stirring until fully dissolved.

If using vanilla extract, stir it in now for a subtle layer of flavor.

Taste the juice and adjust the sweetness or lemon juice as needed.

Step 5: Chill

Refrigerate the juice for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Chilling allows the floral and berry flavors to blend beautifully.

Step 6: Serve

Fill glasses with ice cubes.

Pour the chilled Lavender & Blueberry Juice over the ice.

Garnish with fresh blueberries, lemon slices, and a sprig of culinary lavender if desired.

Serve immediately and enjoy.

Serving Suggestions

This refreshing juice pairs wonderfully with:

  • Brunch dishes
  • Pancakes and waffles
  • Fresh fruit platters
  • Tea sandwiches
  • Garden salads
  • Lemon cakes
  • Cheesecake
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Yogurt parfaits
  • Light pastries

For a sparkling version, replace half of the water with chilled sparkling water just before serving.

Storage

Store the juice in a sealed glass pitcher or bottle in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Shake or stir before serving, as natural fruit juices may separate during storage.

For longer storage, freeze the juice in airtight containers or ice cube trays for up to 3 months. Frozen juice cubes are perfect for adding flavor to sparkling water or iced tea.

Tips for Success

  • Always use culinary-grade lavender, as ornamental lavender may not be suitable for food use.
  • Fresh, ripe blueberries provide the sweetest flavor, but frozen blueberries work well too.
  • Avoid over-steeping the lavender, as it can become overpowering.
  • Strain the juice twice if you prefer an extra-smooth texture.
  • Chill thoroughly before serving for the best flavor.

Flavor Variations

  • Add fresh mint leaves for a cooling herbal twist.
  • Replace honey with maple syrup or agave nectar.
  • Mix with sparkling water for a refreshing spritzer.
  • Blend in fresh strawberries or blackberries for extra berry flavor.
  • Add a slice of fresh ginger while simmering for gentle warmth.
  • Include orange juice for a bright citrus variation.
