My husband had a vasectomy, yet two months later, I got pregnant. He called me a traitor, left me for another woman…but he had no idea that the biggest shock was waiting for him in the ultrasound room.019
The Doctor Looked at the Ultrasound and Said, “Your Wife Isn’t Two Months Pregnant”
When Dr. Salinas looked at the ultrasound screen, the room suddenly went silent.
She studied the image for several seconds before slowly turning toward Diego.
“Mr. Diego,” she said calmly, “before you continue accusing your wife, I need you to look very carefully at what I’m seeing here.”
The confidence disappeared from Diego’s face.
Paula stood behind him with her arms crossed, watching the doctor.
“What are you talking about?” Diego asked.
Dr. Salinas pointed toward the monitor.
“This pregnancy is not two months old.”
Diego frowned.
“What?”
The doctor looked at me.
“Laura, based on the measurements, you’re approximately fourteen weeks pregnant.”
My mouth fell open.
Fourteen weeks.
I stared at the screen.
Then I looked at Diego.
He was staring at the ultrasound as though he couldn’t understand what he was seeing.
“That can’t be right,” he whispered.
Dr. Salinas remained composed.
“I’ve taken the measurements more than once. The estimated gestational age is consistent.”
“But she told me she found out two months ago,” Diego said.
“That is possible,” the doctor replied. “A woman can discover a pregnancy weeks after conception.”
Nobody spoke.
Then Diego shook his head.
“No.”
His voice was barely audible.
“No, that’s impossible.”
Paula stepped forward.
“Doctor, are you saying—”
Dr. Salinas stopped her.
“I’m saying the pregnancy began significantly earlier than your husband believes.”
Diego stared at me.
For the first time since he had seen the positive pregnancy test, his face wasn’t filled with anger.
He looked confused.
Then frightened.
But Dr. Salinas wasn’t finished.
“And there is another detail you need to know.”
She adjusted the ultrasound image.
“Your wife isn’t carrying one baby.”
My heart stopped.
“What?”
The doctor gave me a gentle smile.
“There are two.”
Twins.
The word seemed to echo through my mind.
Two tiny lives.
Two heartbeats.
Two babies.
Tears immediately filled my eyes.
But Diego didn’t move.
He simply stared at the monitor.
Then he whispered:
“That means…”
Dr. Salinas looked directly at him.
“Yes.”
He swallowed.
“If she’s fourteen weeks…”
The doctor nodded.
“The estimated conception date would have been before your vasectomy.”
The room fell completely silent.
